Information society must be considered a learning society, where people have life-long learning competencies and become acquainted with skills to manipulate, control and add value to information. Quality, appropriate education and continuous training are therefore seen as capital conditions of the path towards knowledge societies comprised of knowledge-citizens.

The Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) represents a factor that ignites the need to modify and modernise the traditional pedagogical approaches and didactics. On the other hand, at the organisational and administrative level, challenging questions regarding the implementation, the use and the governance of these processes are raised, in order to find the best suitable solutions.
